My name is Ronald Baan, and after working as a consultant for many years, I noticed that while I was naturally taking on new and different roles in data management, there was often a significant setback once my project concluded because the client organization hadn’t been able to build up sufficient knowledge. I also noticed that while I could get things moving in one part of the organization, the rest of the organization wasn’t able to take over.
I then decided that I could better support organizations by teaching them to do it themselves. In addition to doing the work, this involves continuous learning and focusing on communication between departments, between business units, and across the various levels of the organization. In my experience, this is the best way for an organization to become more data-mature.
That same year, I also became Chair of DAMA Netherlands. In this role, I encourage and help professionals to collaborate on deepening and modernizing our knowledge of all aspects of data management.
Through my company, I teach various DAMA CDMP-certified data management courses. In the courses I teach at the Geo-ICT Training Center in the Netherlands, I also focus on geoinformation.
I conduct data management workshops for various municipalities, among others. These cover the basic registries BAG, BGT, and WOZ, as well as the SOR (coherent object registry).
