More and more information includes a location component—think of addresses, coordinates, or areas. With knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS), you can use this data effectively. ArcGIS helps you visualize insights and make better decisions.
You don’t need a technical background to get started. This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn how to effectively use geographic information in their work or studies. You’ll start with the basics and build your GIS skills step by step.
In this course, you’ll develop your basic GIS skills step by step using ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro. You’ll learn how to collect, edit, and visualize geographic data, and how to apply spatial data analysis in various situations.
We start with simple tasks, such as zooming in and out and working with layers. Then you’ll move on to more complex processing techniques, such as geostatistics. We also cover the key theoretical concepts associated with spatial analysis, so you understand why you use certain techniques.
The course consists of dozens of hands-on exercises based on realistic scenarios. This way, you’ll not only learn how to use the software but also how to apply geographic information to solve real-world problems.
What you learn is applicable across a wide range of fields—from ecology to engineering. Whether you’re just starting out or already have experience with data, this course provides you with a solid foundation to work professionally with ArcGIS.
Blended learning combines independent online study with hands-on, interactive sessions, allowing you to gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience with ArcGIS and spatial data analysis. The online modules give you the flexibility to study at your own pace. They include interactive lessons on working with geographic data, map layers, and GIS analyses. You’ll learn how to collect, process, and visualize data using ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro, and how to apply it to spatial analyses based on real-world data.
During the hands-on online sessions, you’ll immediately apply the knowledge you’ve gained. You’ll work with realistic datasets and be guided by experienced GIS specialists. You’ll learn how to build geographic datasets, create maps, and combine multiple layers for in-depth analyses. By actively working on real GIS cases, you’ll develop practical skills that are immediately applicable.
The combination of flexible online learning and hands-on training ensures that you not only learn how to work with ArcGIS, but also how to use it effectively for realistic GIS projects. After this course, you will be able to independently analyze, interpret, and use geographic data to make better-informed decisions in your field.

All courses are taught in person. Course hours are from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Coffee, tea, lunch, and a laptop are provided.
Taking a course online is also possible, but we only offer hybrid courses in exceptional cases. If you wish to participate in a course online, please indicate this during registration—select “Online” as the location. If that is not possible, this course will only be offered on-site in Apeldoorn.
Yes, we do this regularly. Our instructor will come to your location and bring laptops for the participants. All you need to do is arrange a classroom at your location.

After each course, participants receive a link to our evaluation portal. There, you can share your feedback on what you liked and didn’t like about the course. We always do our very best, but of course, there may be times when you have a complaint. Click on “Complaints Procedure.” It explains what steps you can take. After the course, we will email you a link to our evaluation portal. There, you can log in and fill out an evaluation form, and you can also download your certificate of participation.
